Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- Staff Trained in Peaceful Kids & Peaceful Classrooms - Teachers are skilled in evidenced-based wellbeing programs that build emotional resilience, mindfulness and supportive classroom environments. We also offer a six week small group withdrawal Peaceful Kids program K-6. We have one teacher trained to deliver the Peaceful Parents program.
- Seasons for Growth - is a biennial Year 1-6 program offered as a small group withdrawal session over 8 weeks. The program helps children build resilience and cope with significant life changes like death, family seperation or migration. Using the metaphor of the seasons to show that grief is cyclical not linear, fostering emotional skills in a safe, peer supported group setting led be a trained "Companion". At Arncliffe Public School many of the staff are trained Companions.
- Rock and Water - is an evidence-based, psycho-physical program that teaches social and emotional skills to Stage 3 students through physical exercises and reflection. It uses the metaphors of "rock" (strength, focus and determination) and "water" (calmness, flexibility and adaptability) to help students develop self-awareness, resilience, self-control and respect for others.
- Gotcha4Life - is a prevention first whole-school approach that builds mental fitness and the wellbeing of students, teachers and families.
